Veolia Environmental Services devises innovative operational solutions to improve the way mixed non-hazardous industrial waste is treated and recovered.
Dedicated sorting centers
Unlike waste sorting at source, the collection of bulky waste complicates its recovery. Hence Veolia Environmental Services' decision to deploy a new generation of high-performance sorting centers such as the Ludres Materials Recovery Facility in eastern France, dedicated to non-hazardous industrial waste.
The automated system set up in Ludres is a first. The technologies it uses can separate mixed raw materials—metals, plastics, paper and wood—while recovering more than 50% of them.
Varied market outlets
Although it assumes large inflows, the system in Ludres offers flexible market outlets. Not only can it produce secondary raw materials, but it can also prepare refuse derived fuel (RDF), an energy recovery source.
