Helping to Make Soil More Fertile

Veolia Environmental Services revitalizes soil by converting green waste into compost and organic conditioners.

Dedicated facilities

Veolia Environmental Services offers farmers and local public authorities recycling solutions for all of their organic waste, including household bio-waste, urban and industrial sludge and green waste. Our composting facilities can recover the landfill gas from waste decomposition via the methane production process (anaerobic digestion).

Award-winning production

The compost produced through biological treatment is sold to farmers, landscapers, public authorities and private households, which use it to enrich their soil.
The nine European Ecolabels awarded to Veolia Environmental Services certifies the quality and traceability of our composts.

A commitment to quality

Veolia Environnement's Waste Management and Energy Research Center (CRPE) and the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) have been studying the agricultural value of composts from urban waste since 1997.
Veolia Environmental Services also works with the French Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) and the Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) to guarantee that our products are safe to use in terms of health, especially pathogenic germs.

Reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions

Actions to reduce and avoid greenhouse gas emissions are being implemented throughout our activities. In the composting facilities operated by Veolia Environmental Services, this results in the following actions:

  • Increase compost production, a low emitting treatment solution.
2.35 million tonnes of waste have been composted, leading to the production of 752,000 tonnes of compost.
  • Use of compost in agricultural recovery: it avoids the use of inorganic fertilizer and helps to bind carbon in soils.
  • Recover methane from methanisation processes to produce heat and/or electricity.
